The rare Max Stein Postcard series now known as PC758 features 25 baseball-related cards out of a total of 49 postcards in the set which were issued between 1909 and 1916. This offer features Smoky Joe Wood in a Boston Red Sox away uniform, photographed at Comiskey Park in Chicago.

This set is rare, with only 66 postcards from the PC758 set have been graded by SGC, 16 of those being either the Buck Weaver or Honus Wagner issues. Only four examples of the Joe Wood have ever received a higher grade than the example being offered here. The strong borders along only two sides of the image is consistent with other postcards in the set, and is not an indication of a miscut. While the verso remains unblemished by writing, the strength and boldness of the ink used to print the back of the card has slightly bled through to the front image. Some chipping along the left edge and soft corners keep this example from a higher grade.

In 1912, Wood led all Major League pitchers in wins (34), winning percentage (.872), complete games (35), and shutouts (10) during the regular season. He followed that up by going 3-1 in the World Series, striking out 21 New York Giants batters in 22 innings to lead the Red Sox to their second title in team history.
