This example features catcher Paddy Livingston in a pose reminiscent of Hughie Jennings, though it is more likely that we simply can't see the catcher's glove on his left hand, which is just out of frame. Livingston wears his white Athletics uniform and cap, standing in front of a beautiful grandstand with the light blue sky and green grass behind him. This card has tremendous eye appeal with corners sharper than the grade would suggest. However, the card was nearly miscut, just barely including "LIVINGSTONE [sic], PHILA. AMER." at the bottom border beneath the photo, while the white border at the top of the card is overly thick, explaining the card's technical grade.

Beautiful, clean borders, sharp edges, and a well-preserved back mean this example surely would have graded higher had it been properly cut upon its issuance. Livingston's last name is misspelled on the card, and on the SGC label, both errors which went uncorrected. SGC has only ever graded 9 total examples of this Old Mill back version of the Livingston, with only 3 receiving a higher grade than the VG 3 offered here.

Patrick Joseph "Paddy" Livingston played his first MLB game in 1901, and his last in 1917. However, two 4-year breaks and another 2-year break in that span mean he only played 206 total games in the Majors. The catcher was a member of two World Series-winning teams in the 1910 and 1911 Philadelphia Athletics, but didn't play in either Series.
