We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set - the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor quality control in the era which resulted in considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to chipping and wear.

The example offered here is card #440, Juan Marichal, graded MINT 9. Marichal had a monster season in 1963, leading the Major Leagues in Wins (25), Innings Pitched (321.1), and Batters Faced (1,270). He also had 18 complete games, 248 strikeouts, and a 2.41 ERA, finishing 11th in MVP voting, trying to will his Giants back to the World Series to avenge the team's loss from the year before.

His 1963 Topps card shows the Dominican Dandy all smiles with his big glove front and center. The orange bottom border has perfect registration, a rarity for the set, and nicely complements the accent colors in Marichal's Giants uniform. Corners are great, edges are strong, and centering is terrific. Some extremely light snow, mostly noticeable in the background of the red circle inset, is the only thing keeping this card from grading at a 10.

Only 3 examples graded by PSA have ever received a higher grade than the MINT 9 offered here.
