There are three different Bender
cards included in the T206
set. One shows him pitching against a background that
does not include trees, one shows him pitching against a
background that does have trees, and this one shows a portrait of the pitcher against a green/yellow background. While this version is the most common, it also is the most accurate depiction of the eventual Hall of Famer in the prime of his career. The centering is gorgeous on this example, with rounded corners and some chipping explaining the technical grade.
Light tobacco staining on the back stamp this card in time and place. A couple minor blue ink smudges appear on the back between the P and the I in Piedmont, and with the small row of text at the bottom. PSA has
only ever graded 131 total examples of this Piedmont 150 back version of the
Bender, with
only fifty receiving a
higher grade than the VG 3 offered here.
