Pitcher Dick Coffman pitched for 15 years in the big leagues between 1927 and 1945, beginning his career as a starting pitcher but moving to the bullpen in 1935, where he would spend most of the rest of his career.  Coffman would pitch in 40 games per year - then a big deal - every season between 1934 and 1938, leading the league in 1938 with 51 appearances and 12 saves.  He passed away in 1972, and as a result missed the autograph boom - signed examples of his cards are scarce. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
