The American Caramel E90-1 issue is sometimes referred to as the T206 of caramel issues, and has been dubbed "The Kraken" in some quarters due to the challenges of collecting the 120 subjects found within. The set was issued with a stick of caramel that, as one might imagine, led to condition issues which plague the set. This lot includes two cards from the highly desirable set.

The first depicts Orval Overall in a handsome portrait in front of an emerald-green backdrop. Centering toward the east of the canvas, rounded corners, and creases throughout explain SGC's 1.5 grade. SGC has only graded 25 Overalls higher. A rich, red background dominates the Lew Richie example. Some staining in the lower corners, an uneven top border, and an ink stain just right of Richie's raised glove arm explain SGC's 1.5 grade. SGC has only graded 20 Richies higher. The backs of each card have issues, from foxing and ink loss, to staining and a double purple stamp. Nevertheless, two very attractive cards for the grade elements of one of the hobby's more popular caramel issues.

Orval Overall's career was short, but impactful, winning over more than 100 games from 1905 to 1910. He led the Cubs to four World Series appearances in a five year span, winning back-to-back titles in 1907 and 1908. Lew Richie was teammates with Orval for the Cubs' final World Series appearance in that run, the 1910 Series which saw them lose to the Philadelphia Athletics. Richie went 42-23 for the Cubs from 1910-1912.
