Identified in Baseball Reference as Charles Whitney but identified in The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company and elsewhere as "G. Whitney," the third baseman for the St. Joseph (Missouri) Clay Eaters of the Western Association, this 1889 photo was taken at an unidentified studio.  A clean and crisp photo with dark, bold contrast, the detail is wonderful, right to the wrinkles of the backdrop behind him.  Whitney was the subject of five different poses in the Old Judge issue, this one catalogued as #500-2.  An outstanding cabinet photo, with wonderful detail, in outstanding condition.
