Original 6.5" x 8.5" Charles Martin Conlon portrait photograph depicting star outfielder, Bennie Kauff in 1918. Kauff was famously referred to as "The Ty Cobb of the Federal League" after leading in multiple offensive categories during both seasons of the new leagues existence. While playing for the Brooklyn Tip-Tops, Kauff batted .370 with 75 stolen bases in 1914, with a .342 average and 55 stolen bases in 1915; all league bests. Kauff patrolled center field for John McGraw's New York Giants from 1916-20 before accusations of involvement with gamblers and involvement in an auto-theft scheme prompted Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis to rule Kauff ineligible in 1921, effectively banning him from the sport. A fabulously detailed portrait of the controversial outfielder, photo remains in excellent overall condition with gentle wear to the corners. A small, dark stain appears in the upper-left corner on verso, which is otherwise clean aside from Conlon's personal credit stamping and handwritten identifier of Kauff in pencil at the top.
