Only a few short years ago acquiring an original glass plate negative, any negative, from the camera of photographer Charles M. Conlon was virtually impossible. The few Conlon negatives existing in private collections never come up for sale and the vast majority of those known to exist (over 7500) were sold as one collection by The Sporting News back in 2016. Recently, material from several photo archives has changed hands, releasing several original Conlon negatives into the hobby. This 4" x 5" example features Cleveland Indians pitcher, Dutch Levsen. On August 28, 1926 against the Boston Red Sox, Levsen became the last major league pitcher to win both ends of a doubleheader. In doing so, Levsen also became the last major league pitcher to earn two nine-inning complete game victories on the same day. Condition of the 4" 5" glass plate negative is superb with only mild chipping present to outside edges of the emulsion. Conlon's handwritten identification of Levsen appears along the top edge in black. An original paper sleeve Conlon used to house this negative is also included and again displays Conlon's handwritten notations.
