Yankees captain Lou Gehrig was a rare endorser of baseball gloves, and this example is one that is seldom seen.  Constructed of rich, brown leather, this adult-sized base mitt measures approximately 10" x 9 1/2".  The stampings retain a small portion of their original silver ink, reading "Lou Gehrig Jr." "Script Signature," "JC Higgins trademark," "1692 (the model number of the glove)", "Genuine Horsehide" and "Greased pocket."  The leather remains soft and supple, with no holes or tears.  Lacing appears original, with no ink writing or signs of restoration.  Some surface scuffing can be observed throughout, though nothing terribly distracting.  An outstanding piece of memorabilia and a very desirable glove.
