Important 8" x 10" news service photo depicting Native American ballplayer, Moses Yellow Horse (first from the right) of the Pawnee Tribe along with several of his Pittsburgh Pirates teammates. Young future Hall of Fame third baseman Pie Traynor is also pictured and stands third from the right. In 1920 while playing for the Arkansas Travelers of the Southern Association, Yellow Horse's manager Kid Elberfeld exclaimed that his star pitcher possessed a fastball equal to that of Walter Johnson's. By the following season Yellow Horse made his major league debut but only appeared in 38 games between 1921-22. Original news service photos featuring his likeness are both extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors with few existing examples shot at major league ballparks as this photo has been. A large portion of the lower-left corner is missing and the three existing corners exhibit light wear. Three large, obvious vertical creases are present though more apparent on verso which is otherwise blank. A fresh-to-the-hobby example from the personal collection of long time Baltimore area broadcaster, Ted Patterson. Authenticated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
