Cuban pitcher and trailblazer, Adolfo Luque warms up on the sidelines in this outstanding original news service photo from Acme. Luque was by far the game's most significant Latino star during the first half of the 20th century, finishing his 20-year major league career just shy of 200 career victories with two World Series titles under his belt (1919 Reds, 1933 Giants). During 1923, Luque's finest season, he led the National League in wins (27), ERA (1.93), and shutouts (6). A tremendous depiction of Luque, the clear central image is slightly shifted to the left and the 6.5" x 8.5" photo paper remains clean with typical modest wear to corners. Verso displays light smudging, large Acme credit stamping, and a blue paper caption at the top. A March 8, 1928 NEA date stamp also appears towards the right edge. Authenticated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
