Wonderful 4" x 6" sepia toned photograph of legendary New York Giants Hall of Fame ace, Christy Mathewson. "Matty" is pictured winding up at the Polo Grounds during a workout while an unidentified teammate trots up the first base line. This was an era in which the Polo Grounds underwent several significant structural changes, allowing us to positively attribute the image to the 1909 season. Photo surface shows evidence of light creasing to the upper-right corner though is otherwise clean. Verso features four unique Browns Brothers credit stamps, evidence the fabled news photo service issued and filed away the photo across several decades. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
