Scarce early NFL football program featuring the Staten Island Stapletons, otherwise known as the "Stapes." The stapes featured in the NFL from 1929-32 and are likely best known for their star player, future Hall of Famer Ken Strong. Program hails from a Sunday, October 4, 1931 matchup between Staten Island and the Brooklyn Dodgers at Thompson Stadium on Staten Island. This would prove to be one of four Stapes victories that season as they finished with a 4-6-1 record. Program front and back covers exhibit moderate to heavy toning and wear to the top and bottom edges and corners. Interior pages do exhibit rounding of corners but are otherwise clean. A historic program from a long-defunct team and the early days of the NFL. From the personal collection of longtime Baltimore-area broadcaster, Ted Patterson.
