The 1947 Tacoma Tigers set from Morley Studios, documenting the Chicago Cubs' Class-B Western International League team, is one of the more obscure issues in the long list of postwar minor league cards. Dick Greco was a power hitting outfielder who clubbed 333 Home Runs across a dozen seasons with all sorts of teams in a variety of leagues but never saw major league action. He retired after the 1957 season and had a checkered life after baseball, eventually serving four years in prison in a 1969 bribery scandal.
His entry in the set shows a well composed image but the Authentic grade reveals a trimmed card that is otherwise superb, featuring a wonderful photo of Greco swinging the lumber. The reverse details indicate a link to Jordan's Bread, the local radio sponsor of the team but this set missed an entry in the American Card Catalog, where it would have been designated with as a "D" issue, being bakery sponsored, but somehow eluded Jefferson Burdick's wide net.
