The struggle for supremacy in the dog-eat-dog world of wieners was so fierce in the 1950's that Old Homestead, an Iowa meatpacking company, issued a set of 21 players toiling for the Class-A Western League's Des Moines Bruins to bring attention to their franks and other products. The set is rare/borderline impossible, with 73 in total graded by PSA and a sole example showing up on the SGC pop report. The black bottom panel that extends to the bottom of the card is a key culprit in the grading clustering around VG-EX and lower for most examples.
The set features several past and future major league players, among them John Pramesa, who was on a decidedly downward career path in 1955, having played in four major league campaigns from 1949-52 with the Reds and Cubs as a good hit/no field catcher. He's found in the 1952 Topps set and Bowman issued cards of him in 1951-52 as well. There are 4 Old Homestead Pramesa's graded by PSA, and this is the sole 6, with none higher. In addition to the bottom black border, Pramesa features a dark background, which is in very nice shape here. In fact, the card is a super nice looking 6, with some very slight foxing on the reverse seemingly dropping the grade.
