Exceptionally rare official Comiskey Park scorecard for a July 4 game between the White Sox and Detroit Tigers.  The first game of a twinbill, the White Sox would ultimately win the extra-inning affair, 7-6.  Detroit  centerfielder Ty Cobb would have a phenomenal game, going 5-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored, one of four Tigers with multiple hits in the game (the other three being HOFer Harry Heilmann, along with Bob Jones and Oscar Stanage), but it would not be enough, as Chicago would benefit from big games from Shano Collins and Chick Gandil, one of five "Black Sox" to play in the game (the others being Eddie Cicotte, Fred McMullin, Swede Risberg, and Buck Weaver).  The scorecard is well worn with some fading to the cover and a small corner clip at the upper-left.  The scorecard page at the center has become detached from one of the staples at the center, and is loosening from the other, exhibiting significant wear, soiling and pencil marks as one would expect from scoring a 12-inning game.

Early White Sox scorecards - particularly those from 1918 - are particularly rare.  In our research, we have been unable to locate a single example of a 1918 Comiskey Park scorecard having sold at public auction.  Even Ted Patterson's extensive collection - which included hundreds of vintage scorecards from all major league franchises - did not include a 1918 Comiskey Park scorecard.  Exceptionally rare and attractive despite the wear, an outstanding scorecard featuring five members of the "Black Sox," plus a fantastic performance by Ty Cobb.
