Extraordinary large-format cabinet photo featuring the 1904 St. Louis Browns at their Corsicana, TX training grounds. 20 members of the team and/or hopefulls are pictured along with manager Jimmy McAleer about to begin his third season at the helm. In the back row stands Hall of Famer Bobby Wallace farthest to the right and hurler Barney Pelty is second from the left. Another Hall of Famer, Jesse Burkett is seated second from the right in the bottom row. While most players in this image are wearing 1903 St. Louis Browns uniforms, at least two are wearing gear from their previous teams, including middle infielder Gene DeMontreville (Washington Senators), and catcher Jack O’Connor (New York Highlanders). All players are identified with handwritten notations below the photo, with “St. Louis Browns American League 1904” written at the very top.

While corners of the heavy mount are worn and photo does exhibit mild staining, image clarity is exceptional and piece remains an important and noteworthy addition to any St. Louis Browns collector's trove. Verso is blank with light smudging present. Overall dimensions of 10” x 12” with the photo measuring approx. 7.5” x 9.5”.  One of several pieces in this auction emanating directly from the estate of Barney Pelty himself where they have remained until the time of this sale.
