Gorgeous 1961 Topps set collected in the year of issue by its original owner and stored away carefully for more than 60 years, with one fatal flaw: in the year of issue, the collector - a rabid baseball fan - wrote the player's uniform number on the reverse of nearly every card, in dark ink.  As a result, the set can only be considered in FAIR condition - however, the eye appeal of the cards is significantly greater.  Corners are mostly EX/MT or better, with image quality extremely strong throughout.  Centering also appears stronger than is typical for the issue, as this set is notorious for its poor centering and print defects.  While there are some corner dings here and there, if not for the writing we would be describing this set as largely EX/MT, and would likely have sent a number of cards to PSA for evaluation.  Instead, we describe this collection as a true collector's set, with amazing visual appeal, but technically in low grade.  587 cards total.
