Incredible team composite postcard featuring a young Ty Cobb in one of the earliest collectibles featuring his likeness.  Though the 1905 W601 Sporting Life premium is established as the earliest-known collectible featuring Cobb in a major-league uniform, the 1906 Sporting Life postcard features the identical image of Cobb, issued one year earlier than the quartet of 1907 postcards typically considered his "rookie" cards.

A strong example from a seldom-seen issue, the postcard features Cobb along with his teammates, including fellow Hall of Famer Sam Crawford, manager William Armour, teammates Wild Bill Donovan, Ed Killian, Bobby Lowe, Matty McIntyre, George Mullin, Germany Schaefer, and more.  Graded GOOD+ 2.5 by PSA, the postcard was part of a large group of postcards and photos consigned by the family of former major league pitcher Barney Pelty, a member of the St. Louis Browns between 1903 and 1912.  Postally unused, the card is largely clean, some minor staining in the white border area along with an upper-left corner crease and some light corner wear contributing to the grade.

Sporting Life postcards are scarce enough the PSA has graded just 35 examples, and only three of the Detroit Tigers cards.  Detroit examples have been sold at public auction only a few times over the past decade, each achieving strong pricing that reflects the rarity and desirability of the cards.  A newly-discovered example originating from the estate of a major league player, one of the earliest known collectibles picturing Ty Cobb.
