Lot Description  

"Big Six," Christy Mathewson shakes hands with New York City mayor, John Purroy Mitchell on Opening Day – April 14, 1915 in this oversize original press photo from Underwood. Matty is all smiles as his Giants prepare for their first contest of the season, a 16-3 victory over the visiting Brooklyn Robins. Photo exhibits wear to the corners common to photos stored in archives for decades, with light toning on verso. Handwritten notations also appear on reverse along with large, blue Underwood & Underwood stamping, identifying them as the issuing service. Measures 8" x 10". Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
