Beautiful engraved loving cup dating to 1914, as issued to Francis I. Woodburn of the St. Paul's School for having the highest batting average for the season.  The beautiful trophy is eight inches in height, ten inches across from handle to handle, with an ornately-decorated base and rim.  The engraving appears on one side of the cup, and reads Presented by Frank S. McKee to St. Paul's School - Best Batting Average - Season-1914 Won by Francis I. Woodburn.  The silver-plated trophy was manufactured by the F. B. Rogers Silver Company of Taunton, MA, their unblemished stamp appears on the underside of the cup, which makes it possible that the trophy was presented to a student at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire.  St. Paul's is an exclusive boys' college prep school established in 1856 whose alumni includes John Jacob Astor, James Bond (yes, the namesake of Ian Fleming's books), Archibald Cox, William Randolph Hurst, John Kerry, Garry Trudeau, and many, many more notables.  The beautiful trophy is in outstanding condition, having developed a colorful patina over the years.  Engraving is sharp with virtually no signs of wear.  An outstanding piece of early baseball memorabilia, a must for collectors of figural and baseball trophy items.
