Of all the positive developments to come from the recent hobby boom, perhaps the greatest has been the recognition afforded Jackie Robinson.  Perhaps the most important figure in the history of American sports, and certainly one of the most important figures in the history of America in general, Robinson's cards and memorabilia are finally attaining a level of respect commensurate with his accomplishments.  

As part of this recognition, the prices of Robinson's rookie cards have skyrocketed.  1948 Leaf, 1949 Bowman, and 1947 Bond Bread cards featuring Robinson routinely achieve record prices today, and additional collectibles issued near his rookie season - among them the 1948 Swell "Sport Thrills" card and this 1948 Brooklyn Dodgers Picture Pack card - have risen as well.  This example is a beautiful one, measuring 6 1/2" x 9" and encapsulated by PSA.  Printed on extremely lightweight paper, the photo pack cards are extraordinarily condition-sensitive; the grade assessed here by PSA speaks to corner wear and light toning.  Odd-looking appearance on the reverse seems to be the result of how the paper sits against the plastic of the holder, almost from the pressure of the plastic, and under magnification does not appear to be a flaw in the paper itself.
