Exhibit Supply Company went back to a traditional format in 1939 and began a series called "Salutation Exhibits". So named for the brief greeting they offered on the front along with a facsimile autograph that was as fake as a three dollar bill, the series has been arbitrarily bookended in 1946 but the reality is a bit more complex with some subjects being issued for years after. Averill was a relatively short-printed Hall-of-Famer within the Salutations as his career concluded in 1941. This SGC 5 example has a rich, deep brown background and player image, with just a small scratch at the knees and an upper border thumbnail hit keeping the grade down.
