Original 5" x 7" Goodwin & Co. glass plate negative emanating from the "Vermont Find." Perhaps our favorite pose of the bunch, pitcher Bobby Mathews is depicted in a batting pose with the 1887 Philadelphia Athletics of the American Association. Although this image has not been discovered on a Goodwin & Co. issued card, Mathews' uniform and the background of this image are identical to two of his three known Old Judge cards. There is a paper label with handwritten notations affixed to the glass side of this negative and the emulsion side appears impressively unsoiled for a 135-year-old piece of photographic material.
