Hall of Famer Rube Marquard of the New York Giants works out at the Polo Grounds in this 8" x 10" photograph by Pictorial News Co. Based on the configuration of the ballpark and Marquard's Giants uniform this photo can conclusively be attributed to the 1909 season. Of particular interest here is the fact that original Pictorial News Co. photographs are rarely found in this large-format size. Photo does suffer from heavy chipping to the lower corners and the top left corner includes small tears. Pencil crop marks appear at along left edge and scuffing is present across face of the image but important details are not obscured. Verso is more heavily soiled along the right side and otherwise exhibits light staining throughout. A large Pictorial News Co. stamp displays beautifully towards the bottom. Photo is fresh to the hobby and originates from the archives of Photo File, Inc. where it has been stored for several decades until this offering. Guaranteed Type 1.
