5" x 7" portrait photograph of Hall of Famer Mel Ott as posed by official Chicago Cubs and White Sox photographer, George Burke. Burke implemented a method of hand-etching his large-format negatives to achieve the dream-like quality associated with his prints. This is evident in Ott's facial features which have been softened by Burke. Based on examples of 1930's Giants uniforms we believe this photo to have been shot sometime between 1933 and 1935. Simply a wonderful example of George Burke's camerawork, the photo only exhibits minor wear to the corners and remains clean throughout with some light toning towards the edges on verso. Verso also includes Burke's personal Belmont Ave. stamping at the bottom and typed catalog numbers along the top edge. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
