E135 is a large west coast issued set from a maker that specialized in Pacific Coast League cards.  Except for their "Baseball's Hall of Fame", which this Home Run Baker card hails from, the other Collins-McCarthy releases all featured PCL players.  Not so here, as 200 subjects from the AL and NL are in the set, which was released at a time when few comprehensive issues came out.  It shares many photos with the later E121 set and the much-later E126 issue, both from American Caramel, but E135 came first.

This then, is a tough card from a tough pre-war set featuring catcher Ray Schalk, a key member of the White Sox 1917 World Champion squad and an honest player two years later when the eight Black Sox threw the World Series. Schalk helped revolutionize the catcher's position and was a speedster on the base paths as well with his unique skill set earning him a plaque in Cooperstown in 1955. This SCG Authentic example sports a clear image, with what looks like a little original product staining present above his head.  The reverse exhibits some damage from its time in a scrapbook and subsequent removal from same.  SCG shows graded 10 overall, with one 5 and nothing above a 3 otherwise. PSA shows 2 examples in their database. These do not pop up often.
