The 1941 Playball set is considered one of the most beautiful and popular issues of the prewar gum card era.  Featuring brilliantly colorized photos, many culled from the 1940 Playball issue, the 72-card set features numerous Hall of Famers and highly desirable cards, including those of Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and Pee Wee Reese.  The set is extremely desirable among collectors today, due in part to its beautiful design and player selection, its tough high-number series and its manageable size.  The last major mainstream card issue before World War II, the 1941 Playball issue remains extremely popular.  Presented here is an attractive, collector-grade complete set.  While the overwhelming majority of the cards fall into the F-G range, the majority are very pleasing, with only typical age-related wear (corners, edges, toning, etc.) reducing the technical grades of most.  A complete condition breakdown would find 3% falling into the VG/EX range, 14% VG, 21% GOOD, 20% FAIR, 12% POOR with a few trimmed.  We took the liberty of submitting the six key cards to SGC, which graded as follows: #8 Ott (HOF - SGC VG 3), #13 Foxx (HOF - SGC GOOD 2), #14 Williams (HOF - SGC PR 1), #18 Greenberg (HOF - SGC GOOD+ 2.5), #54 Reese (HOF RC - SGC GOOD+ 2.5), and #71 DiMaggio (HOF - SGC PR 1).  The remaining key cards would grade as follows #6 Hubbell GOOD, #10 Vaughan FAIR, #15 Cronin GOOD, #19 Gehringer POOR (writing), #20 Ruffing GOOD, #60 Klein POOR, #64 Doerr VG, #70 Dickey GOOD, #72 Gomez POOR.  One of the most important and highly-coveted of all the prewar baseball sets.  72 cards total.
