Pitcher "Wild Bill" Donovan spent the bulk of his 18 seasons in the majors with the Detroit Tigers of 1903-1912, helping those squads to three AL titles along the way (1907, 1908, 1909). Photographer Charles Conlon captured this image of the man while warming up on the sidelines at Hilltop Park in NY during the tail end of his tenure in Detroit. Curiously, Donovan would find himself back in NY for the 1915-16 seasons, though this time as player/manager for the Yankees who now called the Polo Grounds home. Photo measures 8" x 10" and has a small chip missing from the top, upper-right edge. A light tear appears along the left edge and minor chipping is present to the corners. Verso exhibits light toning common to these photos and includes both Charles Conlon's personal stamp and his handwritten identification of Donovan. Photo is fresh to the hobby and originates from the archives of Photo File, Inc. where it has been stored for several decades until this offering. Guaranteed Type 1.
