Sidearm hurler Earl Moore has been captured by the lens of photographer Charles Conlon in this tremendous 8x10. Shot sometime between 1911-12, Moore is pictured following through on a warm-up toss in front of a packed house at the Polo Grounds. Based on the crowd it's entirely likely we're looking at 1911 Opening Day for the Giants where Moore faced off against Red Ames, shutting out the Giants 2-0 on the back of a complete-game two-hitter. Featured on a starting staff that included Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander, Moore's best season came in 1910 when he finished 22-15, leading the NL in both shutouts (6) and strikeouts (185). Unfortunately, Moore would go 15-19 in 1911, leading the league in losses for a 4th place Phillies squad. Approx. 8" x 10" photo suffers from heavy chipping to the top corners and scattered wear, including a heavy crease to the bottom left corner. Photo is fresh to the hobby and originates from the archives of Photo File, Inc. where it has been stored for several decades until this offering. Guaranteed Type 1.
