In our Summer 2016 auction, we featured an etched resin plaque featuring a reproduction of W.P. Snyder's "A Collegiate Game of Base Ball," which was hand-colored and etched into quarter-inch thick resin.  Until that point we had never seen one, but in the Spring of 2018 were presented with another, virtually identical to this one, taken from the Gilbert Gaul woodcut etching entitled "Thrown Out At Second," which appeared in the September 10, 1887 issue of Harper's Weekly.  Similarly hand-tinted, this image depicts in-game action, a baserunner clearly heading toward second on what appears to be a stolen base attempt.  The work's title gives away the end result.  As with the earlier piece we cannot determine for certain when or how this piece was manufactured, perhaps produced during the period but perhaps produced sometime after the originals.  Regardless, a wonderful depiction of a well-known baseball woodcut etching, professionally matted and framed to a finished size of 17" x 14".
