In 1922 the American Professional Football Association (APFA) changed it’s name to the National Football League (NFL) and George Halas' Chicago Staley’s became known as the Chicago Bears. Most teams from the NFL's infancy are long extinct and finding original programs featuring those teams is certainly no easy task. One such elusive program is offered here, from November 19, 1922, featuring the Rock Island Independents facing off against the Chicago Bears at Cubs Park in Chicago (renamed Wrigley Field in 1926). Thanks to a fourth quarter Dutch Sternaman 20 yard field goal the Bears would defeat Rock Island 3-0.

Two creases are present throughout this program (one horizontal and one vertical). These creases do not detract from overall eye appeal in our opinion but they are worth noting. One interior page has been separated at bottom staple but is still secured at top staple. Cover exhibits minor staining consistent with age and a fold to front bottom right corner. Interior content is sharp with many beautiful player images present, though there are small handwritten numbers in pencil at the bottom of all pages.
