Issued in the late 1890s by the National Tobacco Works, the N566 Newsboy cabinet set was a massive set that contained hundreds of popular athletes, actresses, locations, politicians and more.  The 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" sepia photographs were mounted on a variety of cardboard backings, many cream or peach in color.  Newsboy cabinets are very highly desirable, particularly due to the extraordinary scarcity and value of the 14 known baseball players in the issue.  More than 600 cabinets have been discovered thus far, often with multiple variations possible.  Of the fourteen known baseball players featured in the issue, just three depict Hall of Famers: one of Amos Rusie, and two different poses featuring John Ward.  This example, the "Arms Folded" photo, is the more scarce of the two, and has been recently graded "AUTHENTIC" by PSA.  The "Altered" designation appears to be the result of an obvious trim along the left edge, which does not interfere with the image itself and barely encroaches into the red printed border of the piece.  Aside from a small corner clip at the upper-right, the remaining piece presents well, a tiny white spot that appears to be in the photo itself near the top left, and some minor staining in the border at the bottom.  An exceptional card, despite the trimmed mount.
