The 1954 Topps issue was the company's first to employ two different pictures of each subject on the card front, with an oversized portrait dominating the majority of the card with a smaller "action" shot superimposed near the lower corner.  Each card also included a team logo.  The set's distinctive design remains attractive among collectors today with a color background (in most cases) framed on three sides by white borders.  The cards' larger size makes them susceptible to a variety of wear-related condition issues and they are notoriously difficult to find properly centered.  Most importantly, however, is the inclusion of several key rookie cards in the set, notably Ernie Banks, Al Kaline, Tommy Lasorda and, of course Hank Aaron.

Presented here is an attractive partial set, numbering 170 of 250 cards.  Of course it does not include the three key rookie cards, but it does include the rookie card of Tommy Lasorda, as well as several other Hall of Famers.  Five cards have been graded by PSA: #79 Pafko (PSA 5), #86 Herman (HOF - PSA 5), #109 Bruton (PSA 5), #197 Rowe (PSA 5), and #244 Wheat (PSA 6).  The remaining cards, along with a condition breakdown of the keys, are as follows:#2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 Rizzuto (HOF - VG/EX), 18, 19, 20 Spahn (HOF - VG/EX), 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 Mathews (HOF - VG/EX), 31, 32 Snider (HOF - VG), 33, 34, 35, 36 Wilhelm (HOF - VG), 37 Ford (HOF - F), 38, 39, 41, 42, 44, 45 Ashburn (HOF - EX), 46, 48, 49, 50 Berra (HOF - VG/EX), 56, 61, 68, 69, 70- Doby (HOF - VG/EX), 71, 74, 76, 77, 78, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 87, 88, 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98, 99, 102 Hodges (EX), 103, 104, 105, 106, 108, 110, 144, 222, 223, 224, 225, 226, 228, 229, 230, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 130, 131, 132 Lasorda (HOF RC - VG/EX), 133, 145, 136, 137, 138, 139, 140, 141, 142, 143, 145, 146, 147, 148, 149, 150, 157, 162, 163, 164, 168, 169, 176, 177, 178, 179, 181, 182, 184, 185, 186, 187 Manush (HOF - EX), 188, 189, 190, 191, 192, 193, 194, 196, 198, 199, 202, 205, 206, 207, 209, 210, 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 221, 223, 224, 225, 226, 228, 229, 230, 231, 232, 233, 236, 237, 238, 240, 241, 245, 247, 248.  The collection overall grades 8% NM, 25% EX, 40% VG/EX, 19% VG, 6% G and a few lesser.  Many of these cards are quite attractive, bold and colorful, well-centered with little wear.  Growing rapidly in popularity due to its important rookies and early cards of Hall of Famers, the 1954 Topps set is highly desirable.  170 cards total.
