By the start of the 1961 season, Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax had yet to find the greatness that would be the hallmark of his later career, described on the back of his 1961 Topps card as a "hard-throwing southpaw." His 1960 season showed hints of his future, but things began to come together in 1961, when he would post a record of 18-13, with an ERA of 2.54, leading the league in strikeouts with 269. This beautiful 1961 Topps card has been graded MINT 9 by PSA, with nearly-perfect centering and razor-sharp corners, a small fish-eye above the "X" in his last name, a common print flaw in the issue but keeping the card from the elusive 10 grade. Still, a very desirable MINT example of one of the most widely-collected players of his era.
